For this tournament, we made a few changes to the program. We had 4 species to target (Jacks, Tarpon, Sharks, Redfish) and a bonus species which could be anything. We also gave bonus points for fish caught on arties. We also had a few new captains help us out.

Corbin & Tanner fished with Captain Don Perchalski. They fished the Indian River for Tarpon, Sharks & Jacks. They also fished the inlet with little success due to the amount of boat traffic. Tanner ended up landing a Jack & a Catfish. Corbin ended landing a jack. Corbin also had a nice tarpon try to eat a live mullet on his rod, but he pulled the bait out of the fishes mouth before it ate.

Nathan and Pell ended up fishing with Steve Austin. They ran the beach looking for Sharks, Tarpon & Cobia. Pell landed a small Shark & a Cobia for the day and Nathan zeroed for the day. Randy Aloise took Kody Tickle up the Sebastian river to try to catch a few tarpon. While they saw a lot of fish, they all had lockjaw and would not eat any baits they threw at them.

Zack, Evan, Isaac & Brandon fished with Captain Glyn Austin. We ran the beach and chased Tarpon. Isaac hooked the first Tarpon about 60lbs and got 1 good jump out of the fish and then it made a run and broke off. The next fish about was hooked by Evan and it was about 60lbs also. The fish took a good run and Evan thought it was a shark at first, until the first good jump. Then it made another good run along with another good jump, then it came back to the boat came unhooked. On our way back to the ramp, Zack ended up hooking a small bonnet head shark fishing around a school of bait.

The guys didn’t catch a ton of fish, however, they fished the beach and learned a different style of fishing that they are used to. They all had a lot of fun and can’t wait to get back on the water again.

Let me know if you have any questions.

We had another windy day on the water this past Sunday. Everyone went scrambling looking to get out of the wind and trying to find fish. Most of the group headed up the Sebastian River looking to score on the docks there. Of the group that worked the Sebastian River, Captain Gary Brown took Tanner Hickey to catch a Red, some small Mangrove Snapper and jumped a Tarpon. Captain Doug Kaska led Pell to a 24” Snook. Corbin and Captain Glyn Austin worked a flat that was loaded with bait for an hour in the morning with only one hit and miss. They then headed to the Sebastian River to hit the docks with no success. Then we headed back out to brave the strong winds on the flats and Corbin ended up catching a 3lb trout right before we headed in.
[attachment 1792 TannerHickeyRed.jpg] [attachment 1791 PellMolineaux24inSnook.jpg] [attachment 1785 CorbinSmith3lbtrout.jpg]
Nick Garafolo, Zack Smith & Dylan Smith went fishing at Nick’s house trying to catch the resident huge Snook & Reds. Zack ended up catching a 20” Red and Dylan caught a nice Sheephead on Shrimp. Nick zeroed for the day.
[attachment 1786 DylanSmithSheephead.jpg] [attachment 1793 ZackSmith20inRed.jpg]
Pete Alvarez went with Evan Holt, Kody Tickle, and his parents on kayaks and started in the Sebastian River. Evan hooked into a nice Tarpon on a hard plastic bait about 50lbs. The fish jumped about 3 to 4 times and then he lost it. They saw a lot of Tarpon but could not catch another. They fished the Sebastian river until 11:00am, then went to Turkey Creek, and fished there the rest of the time. Again, Evan was the first one on the water and caught a Red fish this time. He holds it up to show everyone and we all come over to take a picture and by the time we get there he drops it in the water before we could get the picture. They all went up into the creek and got to a spot where Pete told Cody and Evan to fish it hard and then again Evan hooks another tarpon on a red and white HallEmIn lure. They caught no more fish until they get back to the ramp and Cody catches a Large mouth Bass in the same area that Evan caught his Red Fish.
Nathan Brown caught the fish of the day and the fish of a lifetime for many anglers for sure. He fished with Matt Badalato and landed a 36” Snook on topwater and lost a few other big fish to the docks. He also caught a nice jack and topped it off with a catfish. Nathan couldn’t stop smiling all afternoon having a good feeling that he was going to win the tournament with his Snook of a lifetime.
Congratulations to Nathan on his BIG win this weekend and the fish of a lifetime!!
Special thanks to Harry Goodes Outdoor Shop for supplying the bait and Captains Gary Brown, Doug Kaska, Glyn Austin along with Matt Batalado & Pete Alvarez for taking the teens on the water.
We all meet at Harry Goode’s Sat. morning with about 10 of our Teens. Corbin, Dylan, Zack, Pelham,Nick,Nathan,Tanner,Charlie,Micka. Corbin,Tanner, and Micah were on kayaks. They looked like they where hunting for those Tarpon all around them but had no luck. I toke Charlie in the gheenoe and it was his first Space Coast Teen Angler Tournament and he had a good time seeing all those Tarpon but again we couldn’t catch one. Dylan and Zack went with Corbin’s parent’s boat and didn’t have that good of luck besides catching puffer. Thank You Betsy Strecker and family for taking the time to take Zack and Dylan out. Capt. Glyn Austin took Nathan, Pelham, & Nick down to the inlet to fish the flats. Nathan caught a blue on top water while pell caught a jack on a DOA baitbuster. Nick caught a ladyfish on his Mirrodine. We only had a short window of fishing due to the end of incoming tide. We moved to blackpoint, but didn’t find any bait or fish and we went to another area north of Long Point and I caught a 3lb trout. We also saw some pompano skipping, but didn’t catch any. The winners where Nathan for first place , Pelham was second and Tanner was third. The boaters won this one but next time the kayaks will prevail. Thank You Parents and Volunteers for bring the Teens to the event and all your time.

Space Coast Teen Angler
First Tournament

It was a nice Saturday morning on May 16 2009, at Harry Goode’s Outdoor Shop. We had 6 Space Coast Teen Anglers that showed up for the first Teen Angler fishing tournament. The teens were Colin Cassidy, Nick Garufalo, Dylan Smith, Zack Smith, Micah Begelman, and Jordan Beasley. And for volunteers we had Glyn Austin, Doug Kaska, and Randy Aloise.

The wind was blowing between 4 to 6 at ESE. I went with Dylan and Zack Smith and our volunteer was Glyn Austin. We got to our first spot and bait was everywhere. Zack caught the first trout within the first hour, then Dylan gets his soon after. We stayed for some time and then we hear the screaming of the drag Zack is on about 4lb trout. He says it was the biggest trout he’s caught. We moved to some new spots but the wind was picking up 10-15 ESE and now it's time to head back in.

Doug Kaska had Colin Cassidy and Nick Garufalo and boy did they have a story. One of the teens found a bobber floating and then go under. Then Doug was casting at it and finally hooked it and fought it for some time before seeing what it was. A barracuda, it through up a lady fish before they could bring it to the boat. The teen said that was worth everything but the two teens caught a few mangrove snappers each before heading in.

Randy Aloise had Micah Begelman and Jordan Beasley. They said that they caught a few trout each but they just couldn’t get them to the boat before breaking off. Otherwise they said they had a good time and thank Randy for taking them out.

We all met at Harry Goode’s after all the fishing was done. We cooked out and had hamburgers and hot dogs provided by TightLinesKayaking.com before handing out the trophies. First place Zack Smith with 3 Trout, Second place was Dylan Smith with 2 Trout, and Third place was Colin Cassidy with 4 mangrove snappers.

I want to give a special thank to all our Sponsors DryGrip, Hall Em In Lures, Harry Goode’s SeaSide Auto, Daiichi and everyone else that helped out.
