We had agreed to get out as early as possible and while we
waited for some sun to throw light on the ominous clouds LFK
threw his castnet and me and Fishbro played with the Ladies
from the dock.

It was a sweet CIP morning again. The weather was grand and
the breeze refreshing. With this particular tide I knew exactly where
I wanted to be at first light and I made a bee-line for that area.

I got rewarded for my careful planning by being smacked by a large
Snook first thing. The only problem was that he took off direcly at
my stern and tangled me around my number two rod. The mess was
so bad that after the Snook spit my topwater I had to cut both lines.

This left me with only one functional rig. The jiggy gulp shrimp.
Oh well onward to glory.

It was grand meeting LFK and I wish that Neptune had been more
kindly to him on this trip. I Fishbro too, for that matter.

I'm starting to feel a little guilty about all my success at this venue.
You all know me. I'm really very sensitive to the needs of others and
all my false bravado is just my way saying that I love you all.
Except Tuna. (:D

Anyway I hooked 5 snook, 2 reds, 2 trout. I got 2 reds and 2 snook in
the boat. Thank God those two overslot trout jumped ship at boat side
or I'd feel even worse than I do now.

LFK ... great fishing with you buddy.

The Fearless rides again, blazing his name into anals of fishing glory!

I am a total lunatic for kayak fishing. I'll go most
anywhere, do most anything to experience that perfect day. The day that gives
me what all paddle enthusiasts and I crave. Serenity, beauty and isolation.

Combine those three things with fantastic fishing and I'll journey far to
get there. Fortunately for me I have those perfect days waiting for me in
my own back yard at Chokoloskee Island Park.



CIP, as I will sometimes reference this venue, sits at the end of the road.
The last outpost of civilization on the wild and unspoiled South West Florida
coast. You can launch your vessel and find yourself immediately immersed in the
beauty of the Ten Thousand Islands. The back country of the Everglades is
just a short paddle away and the unspoiled white sand beaches of the Gulf of
Mexico is just three miles through a heavenly maze of mangroves full of wildlife
and great fishing. You can venture out on your own or book an eco tour with a
local guide.

Here are some of my personal photographs of the area. Every time I visit CIP
I see wildlife up close and personal.





Once "outside' on the Gulf of Mexico you can camp on unspoiled islands or just take
in the beauty and grandeur of Nature. Here are some photos of a camping trip at nearby
Rabbit Key.




I have so many great photos and memories from Chokoloskee Island Park that
it's hard to choose the photos to show you.



It truly is a paddler’s heaven. All kayakers should have Chokoloskee Island Park on
their Bucket List.



And then there's the fishing. Snook, Redfish, Snapper, Grouper, Tarpon and more. The place
is a fisherman’s' dream come true.






Chokoloskee Island Park offers Tent camping, RV camping, Mobile Home rentals, a full service
marina and launch, recreation room, showers and some of the nicest people you'll ever want
to meet. The owners, Wayne and Linda are so dang friendly and really go out of their way to make
sure you enjoy yourself. They've done everything from helping me take hooks out of my
fingers to extending an invitation for Christmas dinner to me after a long paddle.

Here are some of the local shady characters enjoying the patio and beverages. No doubt telling
each other giant fish stories.



Is this man grinning like an idiot because he's... well, an idiot? No.



He's grinning like an idiot because he's fishing at the best dang kayak friendly place in

Who could say no to that?

I was a little disappointed that charming and fair Terri could not make this shindig. I have
been wanting to finally meet her and the thought of having four of the most delightful fishing
companions a man could desire had my juices flowing... if I can say that?

Alas it was not to be, I wound up with only a bevy of three, Princess, Viv and Dee. Still,
an awesome display of eye candy to be sure.

Anyway we all arrived in the dark and after Sailor slipped on his arse we silently,
one by one, glided to expected glory. All the men folk took off like a shot and raced
to distant spots. Speed kills gentlemen, and the ladies aren't too fond of it neither.

As is my custom I waited nearby for the trio of lovelies and watched as they approached.
In my mind I imagined myself a submarine commander looking up enemy silhouettes in a
code book and then let loose my torpedoes. This is always a fun thing to do while
waiting for the fairer sex.



As they approached I decided to tease them a bit. After catching this mighty Snook I
held it up over my head and yelled to them "Oh Ladies!" Not that I need any extra attractant
but boy did they come a runnin'.



The snook was the start of my Slot Slam of the day. Not to be confused with my second
Under Slot Slam of the day.

The girls were all gathered near me now and asking for advice. Bless them, they can all
yak, fish and be cute to boot. I displayed my plumage again with this nice Red.



Then a provocative pose with a Trout. I feared they might swoon and need rescue after this.

I could tell this was all getting to be a bit overwhelming for the lasses so I directed
them to join the rest of the group around the point, across the bay.



As wonderful as our little interlude was, it was good to be alone for while. Of course
by the time I decided to join the entire group I had completed my second Slam of the day.

Sailor first haled me. He wanted to know how I'd done. I shouted "Double Slam".
He replied as if he did not believe me... "I'll double slam your head". No sooner were
those sarcastic words off his lips when I pulled up a nice fat trout right in front
of him. Now it was Double Slam Plus. He seemed not amused.

Everyone started asking me for good spots to fish. I pointed to a near channel and it
looked like, for lack of a better term, what a politically incorrect man of old would
have called A Chinese Fire Drill. I was mortified at the confusion and vowed to give
no more advice this day. Safety first is my motto. All I did was point!



Of course the mighty, stoic Texan Critterdog did not take part in this ugly display.
Critterdog Abides.



Here's Flying Fish in his Hobie. We had briefly met once before at Round Island. This day
it was grand to better get to know him.



The bite slowed as the days heat increased. We all made our way back to the launch with
thoughts of Fishons marvelous BBQ'd ribs dancing in our heads. Once again the birds came
out to greet me even before I was near the launch. They just know.




After hauling out and packing up we joined the party on the patio. Here you see Fishon
carefully tending to his meaty offerings. I must thank Fishon and Princess Run Amok for
being so thoughtful. The meal lacked nothing.



The dinner bell rang and we eagerly piled our plates high with scrumptious goodies.



I say the meal lacked nothing but my beverage did. I was a bit taken aback by the lack of
citrus fruit. Of course I had brought along a marvelously large lemon for use in cooking
my copious catch. I'm sure the gang later enjoyed my Redfish and Trout contribution to the
festivities. But I was horrified to discover that there was not a lime to be had. How can
one enjoy a proper Cuba Libre without a lime? Oh the humanity!

Sensing my displeasure, sucking up and seeking to gain some knowledge at my feet,
Sailor volunteered to drive the nine miles back to Everglades City to procure a lime
for my libation. Others overheard his plan and added to his shopping list. Here is
Sailor returning with my lime juice his face glowing with anticipation at the thought
of a private fishing audience with your humble narrator.



That's better.



The meal was a delight and I must commend Foxy on her skill with a kabob. These skewered
sausage and pepper sticks were the highlight of the feast for me. Shish - kabob heaven.



Here are three of the best buddies anyone could ever ask for. Mike, Connie and Vivian.
They are the type of people your parents warned you about. Marvelous.



We ate, drank and made merry. The conversation filled with stories, jabs and great fishing
lies made it a time that one wished should never end. The group then asked me to give a
talk on technique and local venue. I happily obliged but kept it brief as the attention span
of most of the attending celebrants could be dispensed at a toll booth.

Princess Run Amok seemed to be having trouble with the advanced concepts I had related to
the party goers. The discourse became quite lively. It was like witnessing that moment
when our early ancestors discovered fire.



Critterdog of course needs no schooling. He sat bemused watching the affair from the porch
swing.



A marvelous time was had by all. I leave you with two images.
The first is for the lovely ladies that I was so fortunate to paddle with on this day. I
know they will cherish this momento. There is also a secret message hidden in this photo
for all who doubt or besmirch my fishing prowess.



The second is the road home. Many miles before I sleep.

never get tired of sharing my knowledge and technique with eager young
Anglers. So when my great friend and student, Triple Tail Tim, called me
last week and asked if I was free to spend some time with him I replied
in the affirmative. I particularly enjoy Tim's attentiveness and respectful
demeanor when we're together on the school of the sea. He may not be the
brightest pupil I've ever had but he makes up for that shortcoming with
effort and a sunny disposition. I love the little booger.

We launch and are greeted with a spectacular display of Mother's grandeur.



I give Tim directions to an area where I know he'll catch something on
top water. Something he'll be able to handle. Not too big but not too small.
As soon as we enter room 101 Tim hooks up a nice Jack. You should have seen
his face. He was positively glowing.

(I'm sorry about the backgrounds on some of these photos but you understand)





We boated a bunch of Ladies and not much more after that so we changed
classes to Room 201. Here I boated a Sea Bass, Sheepshead and Black Drum.
I know this is hard to believe but this was my first ever-Black Drum. It
seems even the teacher can still learn.




Now it's time for the Triple Tail lesson for the day. I give Tim directions
to Room 301 and with a big smile on his face, he motors ahead. When we arrive
at the location I give Tim some simple casting instructions and try to convey
some knowledge of currents and habitat. He listens closely and scores a nice
Sheepshead. He was so happy I thought he'd wet himself. That big dumb grin of
his is reward enough for me. I love giving something back.



We continue the Triple Tail hunt and Tim is trying but he keeps crossing lines
with me and he spent a lot of this lesson just untangling his gear from mine.

On one of these occasions while Tim was trying to free his line from my rod tip,
... You guessed it. My carefully thrown cast hooked a mighty Triple Tail. Tim
began to panic. I told him to calm down and just cut his line from mine. He
fumbled helplessly and then the big fish surfaced close to the boat. This
seemed to fluster Tim even more, if that was possible. I told him to stop
looking at the great beast and concentrate on cutting the line. He did it!

I then said "Tim, get the net." He grabbed the net and I masterfully guided
the ancient behemoth right into the device without the Triple Tail so much
as pulling an inch of drag.



Tim, of course was dumbfounded by what he had just witnessed. He pleaded with
me to tell him how I had managed to do that. I decided to have some fun with
him because all his line tangling was starting to annoy me. I told him that
I used my secret "Fish Call". I explained that it involved squeezing one's
lips together and making a soft farting / grunting noise. He was intrigued.
Here you see Tim trying out the bogus technique.



I was chuckling under my breath and then I felt sorry for making sport of him.
So to make up for it I allowed Tim to pose with my fish.




Back to Home Room and Tim eagerly cleans this day’s lesson. Schools In

went back out before i have to go to work at the local fishing hole by my house and did really good. Again one rod and one lure. I did get a chance to catch a baby red and when i say baby it was a baby. Not worthy of a picture but nice to know that there are reds there. But did catch another snook and maybe more but they spit the hook out every time. this one was so lucky.

ROFFS™ OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL SPILL AREA
UPDATED TUESDAY 01 JUNE 2010 (17:00 HRS)

our website (http://www.roffs.com/). We continued to monitor the distribution and movements of the
oil and oil-water-dispersant mixture from infrared, RGB, visible and synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
Today it was more challenging to outline some of the water mass boundaries related to the counterclockwise
eddy west of Tampa due to the clouds. The olive green colored areas are the surface oil
seen in either RGB or SAR imagery. The grey colored shapes represent the surface area of the
water-oil-dispersant mixture that we have been tracking since the first day of the oil spill. The surface
oil has become more apparent from the SAR imagery from Mississippi Sound to Pensacola Bay.
This is the oil that we had observed last week from the RGB imagery which now appears to be
moving eastward toward Choctawhatchee Bay and Destin, Florida. Presently the waters appear clean
and the seafood healthy from the Destin area and east. Eating wholesome seafood is healthy for you.
We observed the surface oil in the counter-clockwise eddy (centered approximately near
85°45’W & 27°15’N) last week from SAR and RGB satellite imagery. Of note are the tendrils of the
oil-water-dispersant mixture that originated from the well site and have been moving in a southward
and southwestward direction over the west Florida continental shelf west (west of Tampa, Florida) for
the past several days. From a SAR image received yesterday (see below) we observed the signature
of surface oil that extended for more than 90 miles and varied in width from approximately 1km to
3km. This SAR imagery provides secondary confirmation that the water we have been following (grey
shapes) contains oil from the spill site. This oil has been moving in a southwestward direction
approximately 30 miles per day the last few days. It remains to be seen which direction this will move
when it reaches the counter-clockwise rotating pool of relatively cooler water centered near 85°45’W
& 24°10’N. Some of this oil is likely to turn southward and then eastward toward the Dry Tortugas
within the next few days, while some is likely to continue moving westward around the Loop Current
“Eddy.” It remains to be seen how deep this water – oil mixture is and if this oil-water-dispersant
mixture will mix with the surrounding waters.
From surface drifting buoy observations provided by NOAA AOML
(www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/dhos/altimetry.php) and our satellite sequential image analyses it appears
that the eddy has a closed surface circulation. However, it is still pulling Loop Current water around it
indicating that it is not independent from the Loop Current. The counter-clockwise rotating pool of
relatively cooler water centered near 85°45’W & 24°10’N had been moving in a southeastward
direction for a few days, but presently it appears to be stationary with part of it (near 86°00’W &
24°00’N) moving slightly westward during the last 24 hours. This interaction is important for
understanding how the oil that is streaming along the eastern side of the Loop Current “eddy” in the
general area 84°00-30’W & 27°30’-26°00’N will tend to travel over the next several days.
The overall shape and motion of the forming eddy or perhaps already formed eddy will give us
insight into the likely path of the much larger pool of the oil-water mixture that occurs in and around
the eddy (centered near 85°45’W & 27°15’N) west of Tampa, Florida . We continue to consider the
possibilities that this side of the Loop Current “eddy” and oil will travel to the Loop Current flowing
eastward into the Straits of Florida. In the meantime, the water in the Straits of Florida through the
Florida Keys remains clean and continues to provide a healthy supply of seafood, as well as, a great
place to be to live, fish, dive, and enjoy the life style. The residents of the Florida Keys have reminded

movements of the oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill from satellites since the explosion. Basically we are using a host of
U.S. (NOAA and NASA) and European (ESA) satellites with a variety of spectral (infrared, near infra-red, visible, RGB
and synthetic aperture radar) and spatial resolutions (300 meter to 1 KM) to see the oil. The MODIS satellite data are
being received from the University of South Florida IMaRS and the synthetic radar (SAR) imagery is being received from
the CSTARS at the University of Miami and also from the NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. We manipulate and integrate
these data at ROFFS™ and the analyses are ROFFS™ expert interpretations of the satellite imagery along with other
data such as winds, sea surface temperature, currents, and in-situ reports. We routinely discuss our results with several
academic and non-academic oceanographers.
We use a plethora of techniques to remove or reduce the effect of clouds and satellite angle, as well as, to
manipulate the satellite data to understand the ocean circulation patterns associated with the oil’s motion. We focus our
efforts on the offshore segment of the oil. Sequential image analysis allows us to visualize the motion. The red “X”
indicates the site of the Deepwater Horizon spill area.
We have been deriving these analyses on a daily basis and posting them to our website (http://www.roffs.com/).

Another spectacular dawn greeted me on Friday.



Right off the bat a snook on me hook.



I figured the day would continue like this but it was not to be. So I took pictures.

These are oyster beds, mangrove trees and islands.



Some people will go to any lengths to learn my secret fishing holes. This is where your tax
dollars go my friends.



I caught another snook and some trout but I was so sure I would have my usual victorious
day that I only snapped this one fishy.



The conditions changed quickly and drastically.



Then it changed again. The blinding sun gave way to this heavenly vision of beauty.

Still a slow morning. I did however manage to capture the rare Lesser Everglades Fruit Bat
for your viewing pleasure.



Vivian sweet Vivian. The poor girl without a Red fish this year. It has been heart wrenching
for me to watch her suffer, redless these past months. I vowed that I would make certain this
day would bring her a crimson reward or die trying. There would be only on outcome. Under my
careful tootledge Vivian got her Red fish. Seeing her so happy made me glad. She called to me
and beckoned me come hither but I paddled away quietly seeking no thanks. Her sweet smile was
thanks enough for this old hombre. Mission Accomplished!





Still slow when Vivian and I parted company. I went north only to be harassed by some very
large sharks. Vivian went south and returned to the launch.

Again I managed to capture another species rarely seen by the masses. Here you see a family
grouping of the Great Horned Cypress Woodpecker. You guys are lucky to have me out there.

I have been promising to take my stepson Andrew kayak fishing for quite some
time. Something always comes up at the last minute and puts the kabosh on our
plans. Weather, tides or work schedules... it's always something.

Well today was different. Today Andrew got his first taste of kayak fishing.
It was also his first time in a kayak and I was a little worried about taking a
complete beginner to the wilds of Chokoloskee Island. But I must say he handled
it with style and sand. The lad done good.

We arrive after our pre dawn road trip.



Now Andrew has never fished in saltwater before so he was asking me about the
nasty species he might encounter. I gave him the usual talk about how to handle
snook and the like. I told him to beware the disgusting Slime Cat and avoid the slobber
and treacherous barbs. Other than that he shouldn't have to much worry. Just use
common sense.

Off we go. I watch Andrew's first cast and of course he hauls in a Slime Cat.
I could tell he was nervous handling the awful beastie but to his credit he

We paddle and fish against some wind and current. Not conditions you or I would run from
but difficult on a newcomer to be sure. He takes it in stride and completes a Trash Can
Slam. Jack, Cat and Lady. Not glamour species but he is very happy with the catching and
he actually says to me "you have to walk before you can run." The lad done good.






I was feeling pretty good about bonding with Andrew in such a manly way. It made me very
happy to see he really was enjoying the serenity of area and the activity of kayak fishing
in general. He wants a boat of his own now. Andrew wants to be a yak fisherman. He's got
natural talent. This I already knew but I did not know the other talents Andrew has acquired
over the years. This kid takes one hell of a picture. Andrew is going places my friends.

ROFFS™ FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC SPECIAL ANALYSIS
FOR THE DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL SPILL AREA (LAT./LONG.)
UPDATED TUESDAY 11 MAY 2010 UPDATED AT 17:00 HRS
At ROFFS™ we have been mapping the distribution and movements of the oil from the
Deepwater Horizon spill from satellites since the explosion. Basically we continue to use a host of
U.S. (NOAA and NASA) and European (ESA) satellites with a variety of spectral (infrared, near infrared,
visible, RGB and synthetic aperture radar) and spatial resolutions (300 meter to 1 KM) to see and
map the location of the oil. This work is a collaborative effort with the University of South Florida,
University of Miami and the Florida Institute of Technology along with other oceanographic
professionals (e.g. Schaudt.US). We use a plethora of techniques to remove or reduce the effect of
clouds and satellite angle, as well as, to manipulate the satellite data to understand the ocean
circulation patterns associated with the oil’s motion. We focus our efforts on the offshore segment of
the oil. Sequential image analysis allows us to visualize the motion. The red “X” indicates the site of
the Deepwater Horizon spill area.
We have been deriving these analyses on a daily basis and posting them to our website
(http://www.roffs.com/deepwaterhorizon.html). We have many years of conducting similar analyses.
For example we mapped the plume coming from the New Orleans area after Hurricanes Katrina and
Rita (http://www.roffs.com/katrina.htm).
We continue to monitor the conditions this week and we have updated this analysis using this
afternoon’s satellite imagery. One must realize when evaluating visible (RGB) and synthetic aperture
radar satellite imagery that the “visibility” of the oil is subject to effects of the angle of the satellite
relative to the sun and Earth, as well as, shadow effects of clouds (RGB). Under some conditions the
oil seems to disappear, but that is an effect of sun angle etc.
Our ROFFS analyses suggest that the offshore segments of the oil continues to move further
offshore as pulled by several interacting current regimes. Today we have displayed the oil observed
with the RGB – visible imagery in an olive – brown color. The grey area indicates where we suspect
that surface oil and surface and subsurface oil – water by-products have moved to based on following
the water masses associated with the relatively cooler temperatures that were upwelled from
subsurface water by the oil and from ocean color imagery including the artifacts in the derived
chlorophyll imagery. Again we are focusing out attention on the relatively offshore location of the oil.
Since at least this past weekend the area of suspected oil continues to be pulled in a clockwise
direction around the main eddy which is centered near 89°20’W & 27°48’N. Note that the observed oil
near 88°12’W & 28°00’N continues to move in the same direction. We anticipate that motion will
continue for at least the next few days. Please note that we did received several anomalous AXBT
readings from University of Miami (RSMAS) and Nick Shay near 88°30’W & 28°24’N, 88°30’W &
28°00’N, and 88°30’W & 27°30’N. ROFFS is interpreting this as a confirmation of a contamination of
oil at these locations. Although the eddy centered near 89°20’W & 27°48’N appears to be winning
the battle of the forces compared with the water being pulled toward the northwest side of the Loop
Current, we did observe some of the oil near 88°30’W & 27°00’N being pulled eastward towards the
Loop Current. Please note that this is a very small piece of surface oil and there is no way to know
how deep this oil extends into the water column or how thick this particularly piece of oil is. Due to its
proximity to the northwestern side of the Loop Current, we expect the east/northeastern motion of this
particularly piece of oil to continue for at least the next 24-48 hours.
Northeast of Desoto Canyon we continue to observe a counter-clockwise rotating eddy
centered near 86°45’W & 29°20-25’N that continues to pull some of the observed oil near 87°45’W &
29°15’N and some of the suspected oil-water mixture in an eastward direction to near 86°30’W &
29°15’N. Although the eastern edge of this eddy appears to be pulling some of this oil/oil-water
mixture in an inshore direction, the currents northward and eastward towards Cape San Blas are not
supportive of moving the main portion of the oil towards the Florida Panhandle at the present time.

The winds at Chokoloskee were light and refreshing just as
Neptune had promised. Lconn joined us and he did catch some
small offerings. This after staying out a full six hours longer than
us. I give him a lot of credit. A man must know his limitations.

The Slamming day in pictures ensue. We had a remarkable experience.
I cannot divulge all of it. Suffice to say "we kicked a$$."

Caught two big fish to day off the shore line after dropping the kids off for school. I had to kill some time before i started my day. Stopped at a local park where i caught that little snook before and fished it for 2 hr. The first Snook was every bit of 30incher. I thought i had that picture but i didnt save it on my phone. So i was kicking my self in the ass and praying to the fish god's to let my caught another. And they gave me this one to make sure i had a picture.

Basically I'm a humble man. I shun the spotlight and am quite comfortable lurking
in the background. "The man behind the scenes" if you will. Not the puppet master
but more of a benevolent mentor always willing to instruct the less fortunate. Content
to watch my young saplings grow and flourish from the seeds of knowledge that I have spread
upon the rocky ground of willing minds.

I take little pleasure in reading the accolades heaped upon me by an adoring public. I
sometimes blush and have been known to utter phrases like "Oh shucks" when browsing
through some of the complimentary correspondences I so often receive. You might say
I'm a throwback to a time when the men were men and the sheep were scared. Still, I am
here for you. Standing stoically in the shadows of seamanship. Spilling my seed upon
the soil.

As usual another unannounced yak fisher showed up at one of my venues hoping to garner
wisdom from the master. As usual I did impart some advice to the would be disciple.

I explained that it is not a good idea to have your hands and feet in the water whilst
landing a floppy Ladyfish at the mouth of a tidal river in the Big Cypress Swamp.
I did not have the heart to go further and critique his choice of rod or kayak:

But I particularly enjoy sharing my exploits with a special few members. For those
few I think of it differently. "Members", that certainly defines them.

I imagine myself and companions seated at a table on tall chairs. As we feast on the bounty
that the Mighty Neptune has seen fit to bestow on us we watch as a few unworthy Derelicts
fight over the crumbs from our tablecloth. I envision us hoisting tankards and heartily
laughing at the anarchy at our feet. I never get tired of this.

On to our story:

We launched onto the grey waters just as Neptune instructed. The weather, while threatening,
could not have been better. Light winds and calm seas lasted the entire day.
The Great Bearded One favors me and a sacrifice to him will be forthcoming.
A possum perhaps.

The catching started slowly but it was one of those days that you just knew all hell would
break loose. We were joined by Kyakker, aka Kenny. It was good to see him again. A fine lad.

Many fish were caught. I had a bit of good luck and a bit of bad. I hooked and got two upper
slot reds to the boat but lost them in the dehooking process. I also had a fish fight so hard
that it snapped my rod in half. When you catch as many fish as I do pole fatigue is to be
expected. Oh well, still another glorious day.

the water with friends. Hell, I'll even launch if it's windy.

I will admit that there is a very small group of people that can claim to have
mentored me and you would think that they'd take some pride in the monster they've

Well under the weather is an understatement. I
have been battling a nasty flu. I coughed so hard whilst on the commode the other day
that I broke a blood vessel in my ass.

So I changed plans to do a circumnavigation of Chokoloskee. I used my vast nautical
knowledge of navigation to take proper advantage of the tides and currents. I know
that some of you think me a shoot from the hip, thrill seeker but I always have a
plan. And my plans always pay off.

The Mighty Critterdog and the Amazing Amazonian Arturo were supposed to accompany
me and I Fishbro but things came up and neither could make the treacherous trek.

Off we went. The sensational siblings. Glory bound and loaded for bear.

Phase 1: Get there early.



Phase 2: Slam.





Phase 3: Catch a bunch of trout, put them in the cooler of doom, lunch at Smallwods,
return on the flipside or Outdoor Resorts with the incoming, cleanse the catch and
feed the Anhingas. Oh yeah ...Collect Underpants.

As soon as you pick up this book you can feel Jon’s love of kayak fishing. You are guided through all aspects of kayak fishing. Jon relates his own experiences in each section and it gives the reader a personal point of reference that makes this book not only a great manual but also a great read.

Kayak Fishing by Jon Shein is a must have for any newcomer or old salt. This book will help you catch more fish.

It's Capt. Charles Wrights’ Annual Everglades
Paddle In for 2010. It's a fun filled, fishing and family scramble from Everglades City
out to Indian Key on the Gulf Of Mejico. The journey is carefully planned to take
advantage of the tides out to and back from Indian Key. The weather was spectacular and
the seas smooth. It was a great day to spend with old friends and meet many new friends.

Many thanks to the good Captain and crew for showing everyone a wonderful time. If you
have never attended this event I urge you to make the next one. You will not be disappointed.

We head out Indian Key Pass traveling and fishing with the outgoing tide. I naturally outpace
everyone in the mighty Trident. I am so far ahead that I fear for the safety of some of the
less experienced members of our group so I land on a beach midway and wait.




Satisfied that my flock is in no danger I forge ahead to make safe the way forward.

I am by nature a very shy person and try to keep a low profile at such events because it seems
everyone that reads my posts wants to make my acquaintance. This day was no different and
